General English

General English course runs throughout the year. Students have the choice to register from 1 to 48 weeks and can choose to study in the morning from 9am to 12pm, or in the afternoon from 12.15pm to 3.15 pm or from 4pm to 7pm.

Students are required to take an entry level English test in order to assess their level and must also fill out a needs analysis form.

Speak Up London will provide its students with all the learning materials in class and it is also possible to rent or purchase the coursebook at the reception (£20 to £25 depending on the book).

IELTS

IELTS course is designed for learners who wish to obtain a highly recognized accreditation, as well as, improve their English skills. The course includes working on general language, grammar, vocabulary, reading, listening, writing, as well as, pronunciation and speaking.

The exam which is split into four parts consists of three parts of speaking, three sections of reading, four sections of listening and two tasks of writing. Each section will be explained in depth and practiced in test conditions within the class to make sure each part is clear.

An IELTS course at Speak Up London will help you to gain confidence in all aspects of the exam and in your own English skills. Constant feedback, correction and emphasis on speaking will give you an opportunity to develop your English. Helpful methods for reading and listening, writing correction and workshops, where the test will be analyzed, will also help you to completely understand and familiarize yourself with the exam.

While studying you will also learn and practice the key elements of the IELTS exam which will be studied in depth along with tips and advice and specific vocabulary to help you gain the level you want. Every Friday, you will do a supervised IELTS Mock Exam, checked by your tutor, to show your progression and give you some guidance on which parts to improve on.

Finally our material will be hand selected to improve on crucial areas, these include phrasal verbs and idioms to impress the examiner and help you to achieve the score you want.

FCE

All of the 5 main areas of English that students are tested on are covered – reading, writing,use of English, listening and speaking. Up to date course books are used as a guideline and structure for the classes, but are supplemented with a lot of extra handpicked materials and taken on occasional excursions which aim to immerse students into real life examples of speaking English.

Teachers seek constant improvement from the students and set demanding tasks which push the students to progress. A mock FCE exam is undertaken every Friday so that students become accustomed to the requirements of the exam, teachers have a record of their continual development and allows both the teacher and student to make the best decision on when to take the exam.

CAE

Speak Up London is a Cambridge Exam Preparation Centre and our CAE lessons offer students the opportunity to study in a fun, challenging and engaging environment which encourages them to aim for the highest possible level of achievement. All of the 5 main areas of English that students’ are tested on are covered – Reading, Writing, Use of English, Listening and Speaking.

Up to date course books are used as a guideline and structure for the classes, but are supplemented with a lot of extra handpicked materials and taken on occasional excursions which aim to immerse students into real life examples of speaking English. A CAE mock exam is undertaken every Friday so that students become accustomed to the requirements of the exam; teachers have a record of their continual development which allows both the teacher and student to make the best decision on when to take the exam.

The exam is accepted by educational institutions worldwide, including top universities and colleges in Australia, North America and the UK. As well as using your certificate for university applications worldwide. The exam focuses on Level C1 (IELTS band score 6.5 to 8.0) of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) the level required for academic and professional success. Supported by the largest research programme of its kind, the exam is designed to be fair to users of all nationalities and linguistic backgrounds. Professional English

This course is not your typical Business English course; it is a little bit different from what you find at other language schools. Speak Up London designed a special Professional English course for you, that doesn’t simply throw a lot of vocabulary at you, but will actually teach you several professional skills, which you will be using in the working environment. This not-a-typical Business English course covers several topics over a period of 12 weeks.

During this time you will learn everything from how to create a CV and cover letter for your job application and how to impress at the job interview. Starting with writing high-quality emails and making/receiving phone calls in a professional manner, we will work towards improving your negotiation skills with customers and suppliers from different business fields.

Finally you will also learn how to hold a good presentation for your boss, colleagues and customers so that you can feel self-confident in every possible situation you will be thrown into at the time of your employment.
